"Stars
& Planets (Laurie's Song)"
is
a tune I sprung on my wife, Laurie McKeown, during the middle of a gig
at Landmark Studio for the Arts in Sutton, W.Va., several years ago.
She liked it. The tune has been considerably hepped up in the studio,
with
the
addition
of some
ace players.
Also, I wanted to try and write a song that had some of the zip,
finger-snapping pop and lyrical felicity of the Great American Songbook
guys... Yip Harburg rules.

STARS
& PLANETS ('LAURIE'S SONG')
words & music by Douglas Imbrogno (copyright 2004)
---
For L.
Stars and planets pop into a sky so indigo,
Overtop a house where life can be simpatico.
Crawlin' undercover with my lover, she's so warm,
O, we like to nestle and huddle from the storm...
CHORUS:
She's your lover, baby, partner and your mate,
O, I'd like to thank you, I owe you, Mister Fate.
She's a beauty, a cutie, easy on the eyes,
If livin' were a lottery, she would be the prize.
Raising up a family it's enough to drive you crazy,
Some days you want to chuck it, duck it and be lazy.
Then, you turn around, you see a smile upon her face.
Realize you love those eyes in all the human race...
BRIDGE:
In the game of matrimony,
You can't be fake, you can't be phony.
When things get rough and life gets tough...
She smooths the ice, she's a love Zamboni®.
She's a girl from Philly, he's from
Cincinnati,
Now she us a mountain mama, he's a mountain daddy.
First, there came a boy, had eyes like hers, two shiny
chestnuts.
Then, amazing Grace-- these riches just as as good
as King Tut's...
She's your lover, baby, partner and
your mate,
O, I'd like to thank you, I owe you, Mister Fate.
She's a beauty, a cutie, easy on the eyes,
If livin' were a lottery, she would be the prize.
If livin' were a lottery, she would be the prize...
Yeah!
