I am into folks who have obsessional collections. My friend in this video, Ken Fox, agrees that it is altogether possible he lived during Pharaohic times in a prior incarnation. What else could explain such a jones for all things Tutenkhamen and beyond? PS ~ I fell off the blogging hobbyhorse after exiting stage left […]

This rates quite high on the official coolness scale. As the video’s Vimeo page explains this is a visualisation of the northern European airspace returning to use after being closed due to volcanic ash out of Iceland.

I finally got around to uploading to YouTube this video of a very fun counter-protest. When the hatemongers from Westboro Baptist Church announced they were coming to Charleston, W.Va., Covenant House gathered a host of area folk for a flashy response in early April as the Westborians uncorked their usual ‘God Hates Figs‘ bit. Hitler’s mad. Again.

This might not be up for long, so enjoy while it is. I don’t usually go in for parodies that make use of Hitler because there’s just so much you can take of the guy, even when making fun, before your brain starts unspooling pictures of the reality of how he cocked up tens of millions of lives in so many evil ways. But this clip has been a favorite of parodists and this parody about parodies is about as meta as the Web gets.

The tippy-top of the Appalachian South Folklife Center. You were hunkered down under mounds of snow for months. You’ve not stood high on a mountaintop, surveying the oceanic hills all around you, for many a moon. You’ve not yet gotten out to revel amid the red buds of Spring. You love live music by fine […]

But some folks e-mailed to the Charleston Gazette to say their older computers could not play the Flash file of this memorial slideshow to the 29 miners, ages 20 to 61, who died in the April 5, 2010, explosion at the Massey Energy Upper Big Branch Mine near Montcoal, West Virginia. So, here’s a YouTube version.
