A long time ago, in a newsroom far, far away, I was convinced to dress up as Captain Von Trapp. Well, it wasn’t that long ago. And the dressing up actually took place at Magic Makers, a national costume shop in Huntington, W.Va., a place that can turn you into almost anything. And I should note from the get-go:   Christopher Plummer looked a lot cuter than me in poofy woolen pants.

The occasion was a screening last year of a “Sing-a-long with Sound of Music” as part of FestivALL Charleston. You’d be surprised how many of those take place around the world. Another one is coming this Friday, June 11 to the Alban Arts Center in downtown St. Alban. As I was typing the details into the Gazette arts calendar this afternoon, I was reminded of the full-costume audio slideshow shoot we did (from which the above photo is taken).

That audio slideshow was lost to time and the Web, until I recalled the slideshow’s Web address. With some trepidation (I have since come to conclude that pre-World War II Austrian fashion and myself do not get along), I offer the link to that slideshow. Or click on the dweeb in the hat at right. Which — I warn you — will have at least one or more of those insistent melodies from the movie’s soundtrack stuck in your head for hours. Just remember:

When the dog bites,
When the bee stings,
When I’m feeling sad.
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don’t feel so bad …

Like I said.
