“Faralle” (Butterflies) by Italy’s Compagnia TPO, presented by ArKtype, promises to be one of the more unusual family-friendly multimedia experiences at FestivALL Charleston, the citywide cultural event June 18 to 27. The performance troupe will invite a select number of children to join them on-stage at the Clay Center’s Walker Theater in the hi-tech environment they create during their “Farfalle” show, inspired by the life cycle of butterflies. Or, as their Web site dubs the nature of their performances: “Interactive theater in immersive environments.” The show is about 50 minutes long and chosen children will help trigger changes in the soundscape and digitally projected images.

The show are: 10 a.m. Friday, June 18; 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19; and 1 p.m. Sunday, June 2o.

If you have a thought to take a batch of youngsters to one of the shows, hop to it. E-mail sandraja@juno.com or call 304-610-2443. Some of the afternoon performances are followed by “installations” (free to performance ticket holders) where young and old can explore the show’s audio/visual atmospheres. The Avampato Discovery Museum will also offer companion workshops on butterflies. Find out more in the 2010 Schedule section of the official FestivALL site (June 18 – 20).
